Captain Cook described the Korimako or Bellbird as sounding, ‘Like small bells exquisitely tuned.’ While Māori compare great singers or orators to the bird, saying, ‘He rite ki te kòpara e kō nei I te ata,’ (just like a bellbird singing at dawn). As nectar-feeders korimako are important pollinators of native mistletoe, fuchsia and kowhai.
